Have you considered hiring a professional to do some work around your house? Sick of looking at that faded and chipped interior paint? Scared that you might not get the super clean sharp edge from painting your rooms?
Fear no more. We’re here to give you tips on how you can paint like the pros and save time and money at the same time!
Prep your wall first
Take out all the screws, and everything that can make your wall look uneven. This includes electrical fixtures as well! Now as for your pictures and hanging wall decorations, make sure you set them aside. We wouldn’t want paint splattering all over them, would we?
Never ever skip this step if you want your wall to look as clean as possible. Plus, you get the chance to find out if you’re going to need to replace them soon. Once they’re out of the way, clean them up, especially if someone has previously painted over them. Failure to do this step will leave you with painted plastic accessories. As for fixtures that cannot be removed, just lift them a bit. Don’t forget to take out the nails and tape!
But don’t paint just yet!!
Start your first coat
For brushes, transfer a bit of your paint in an empty can to avoid getting paint everywhere and all over the brush. As for the amount, as long as you can get to the end of the can, you can start painting. First, paint around the fixtures. This technique would help you not only save paint but also work with precision!
When you’re working with corners, it’s best if you push the brush down just enough til the edge would reach the corner and slide towards the end of the cut for a cleaner look. Once you get that small ridge when you run out of paint on your brush, just feather it out and add paint again.
Remember to leave a small gap between the first coat and the cut itself. You’re gonna want to do brushes for inside corners. For outside corners, don’t use rollers. Take your time to fill all the scratches and cut just the same as what you would do for the ceiling corners. To finish, pull it away and feather enough but your brush should be off the wall just before it reaches the other wall. It’s fine to just paint around your base boards but if you feel like you want to make it smoother, do the same steps!
Your roller will be your best friend
Rollers would come in different sizes so work with what you’re most comfortable with, some would work best for some paint brands. Make sure to wash your roller before using them to avoid lint getting onto your wall. Remember to wash your rollers after using them to save some cleaning time.
We recommend using paint sticks or extenders to widen your reach and avoid back pain!
And you’re done!
For your second coat, you can use less paint. But don’t forget to re-do the first steps to transition it properly before using your roller. Simply follow these steps and you’ll be painting your walls like a pro next time! This doesn’t cost much. This would help you minimize your costs on home renovation. Painting like a pro is easy and simple, you just have to take time to learn where you’re comfortable.
